This craft project is a great activity for all ages. With a recycled Pringles tube and some basic craft supplies, you can make a really creative musical instrument. Use these steps, and your imagination, to make a one-of-a-kind instrument for children to enjoy.
Difficulty: Easy
Things you will need:
- Pringles tube
- Scrap wallpaper or wrapping paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Glue
- Coloured pencils or felt tips
- Stickers or other embellishments
- Lentils/Dried beans/Pulses/Seeds
Instructions:
- Get an empty crisps tube and wash the inside well. Place it on a towel to dry.
- Lay out the wallpaper or wrapping paper upside down on your workspace. This will make the cover for the tube.
- Place the tube on top of paper and use a pencil to mark the top and bottom of the tube. Get the scissors and use the marks to cut the paper to the right size.
- Put glue on the back of the paper and wrap it around the tube. Cover the tube once around with the paper and cut off any excess paper.
- Draw designs or write encouraging words with the pencils or markers (remember you can draw/write these on paper first and then cut them out and stick onto the tube). Add stickers or other embellishments to create your masterpiece.
- You could even stick a small toy/bow/item on the lid of your Musical Shaker to make it more interesting!
- Carefully add your beans or seeds to the tube and pop the lid back on. Secure the lid with glue or tape so that it won’t fall off as its shakin’!
- Once they are finished why not take some photos of your group with their finished Musical Shakers and send them over to us for our website!
TOP TIPS
- You can paint the canister with acrylic paint instead of adding the paper cover.
- You can use a variety of things to embellish your musical shaker. Choose ribbon, pictures, buttons or anything else that you find interesting.
- Why not experiment with different beans or seeds to see what different sounds you can get from your instrument?
- Why not draw a picture of yourself so they can see who sent them their gift?
- Please do not mention Release on your Musical Shakers for security reasons.
